H.H. THAKORE SAHEB HARISHCHANDRA SINHJI was born at Juna Darbargadh, Muli, the eldest son and heir apparent of H.H. Thakore Saheb Himmat Sinhji of the princely state of Muli. He succeeded to the throne in 1905 at the age of 6 following the death of his father, reigned under the council of regency of the Muli State political agent until he came of age in 1918.

His early education was done privately at The Rajkumar College, Rajkot and was later tutored and received his administrative training from H.H. Maharaja Jam Saheb Ranjit Sinhji of Nawanagar and H.H. Maharaja Bhagwat Sinhji of Gondal. He was coroneted by H.H. Maharaja Jam Saheb Ranjit Sinhji of Nawanagar in 1917. He recalibrated many important educational, legal, agriculture reforms in the Muli State which has an 800+ years of continued royal family legacy that was founded in 1215 by the first H.H. Thakore Saheb Lagdhir Sinhji of Muli. He constructed The Ambika Niwas Palace in Muli between 1926 and 1935 which is today one of the leading privately family-owned heritage palace hotel of India. From 1936 to 1947, he was a member of the Chamber of Princes. Muli was one of the first princely states to sign the Instrument of Accession in 1948 after India’s independence. Following the Independence, he established an interim legislature for Muli, then with his fellow royal rulers formed the United State of Kathiawar in 1948. The following year, this became the new state of Saurashtra in 1949. This district became part of the new State of Gujarat on the division of the State of Bombay on May 1st, 1960. He died in 1970 at The Ambika Niwas Palace, Muli after a reign of 65 years, aged 71, and was succeeded by his eldest son H.H Thakore Saheb Dharmendra Sinhji of Muli.
